Streets lined with White Walled Warehouses

The town of Furukawa within the precincts of Hida City still retains many storehouses with white mortar walls. These buildings were built after Kanamori Arishige took over the Masujima Castle in 1585. The townscape is similar to that of Kyoto. A man-made canal called Seto-gawa flows by rows of well preserved merchant houses with latticework and local sake breweries.
