Woodwork
Furniture
Set in an area surrounded by mountains, the Hida Region has a long rich tradition of working with wood. It is said that furniture-making really began to take off as a trade in the Taisho Period (1912-1926) when German wood-turning techniques were used on Hida’s rich beech wood. One characteristic of furniture made here is that products are made only of solid wood, because of its durability and soft, natural colors.
